Our Heritage
A discipline passed down, not diluted.
Bipha was founded in 1929 in Ochira, South Kerala, by the Ayurvedic physician Sri Koshy Varghese, fondly remembered as Pappy Vaidyar. Trained in the traditional Gurukul system, he began the practice as SGA Pharmacy, combining classical Ayurvedic knowledge with forward-thinking science. Today, as one of India's oldest active Ayurvedic manufacturers, Bipha delivers holistic wellness and healing through Ayurveda — synonymous with innovation-led growth, ethical values and consistent quality.
Its foundation was laid with a vision of delivering world-class Ayurvedic products through authentic sourcing of ingredients and strict adherence to traditional processing techniques — a tradition carried forward by over three generations of the family. Rooted in Kerala, the historic home of Ayurveda, Bipha draws on the state's living traditions of herbal medicine, its monsoon-fed botanicals and its centuries-old healing wisdom.
Today, Bipha Drug Laboratories Private Limited is led by its directors, Ajay George Varghese and Tinku Varghese — the third generation of the family to carry the work forward.

1929 — Foundation in Ochira
Bipha is established as SGA Pharmacy in Ochira, South Kerala, by the Ayurvedic physician Sri Koshy Varghese, known as Pappy Vaidyar.
Early Years — Erattupetta
After its beginning in Ochira, Bipha's journey continues through Erattupetta as the practice and formulation base develops.
1930s — Move to Kottayam
Bipha relocates to Kottayam, strengthening its roots in Kerala's Ayurvedic and healthcare tradition.

Ingredients are sourced directly from local producers at the origin and processed in small batches as per traditional Ayurvedic principles.
Products are formulated with minimal synthetic additives, colours and fragrances — and are free from paraffin, parabens, petrolatum, silicones and SLS.
Every batch passes herb authentication, extraction quality control, in-process testing and finished-goods analysis. Bipha's R&D centre has developed proprietary concentration technology that retains full medicinal potency in small, convenient dosages with extended shelf life. Full technical dossiers — Certificate of Analysis, MSDS, stability data and Drug Master File — are available to partners for regulatory submission.
